Kay WalkingStick (born 1935) is a Native American painter and educator. She is enrolled in the Cherokee Nation and is also of Scotch-Irish and Ho-Chunk descent.[1] She currently resides in New York and was a Professor of Art at Cornell University from 1988-2005.

Kay WalkingStick was born in Syracuse, New York in 1935. She earned her BFA from Beaver College in Glenside, Pennsylvania and her MFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.[1]
WalkingStick works with oils primarily, but also acrylic, watercolor, mixed media,[1] encaustic, copper,[2] charcoal, and gold leaf. She is known in particular for her mixed-media diptychs that juxtapose symbolic, abstract landscapes with representational landscapes. Of these she says, "No doubt the diptych form is interesting to me because I am bi-racial. Two sides singing in concert, each very different from the other yet united as a whole."[3]
I do not see my paintings as landscapes, per se, but rather as paintings that describe two kins of perception of the earth. One view is visual and fleeting and the other is abstract and everlasting. Thse paintings are my attempt to express the mythically inexpressible and to unify the present with eternity.[2]
